Have you ever been guilty of throwing your boarding pass away at the airport as soon as you deplane? Or into a trashcan in some other public place once you realize you no longer have a need for it? I have been guilty of this plenty of times. Well, let me tell you why you need to stop doing this immediately.
Rather than recklessly discarding your boarding pass in a public place, it is best to be mindful of the consequences that such an action can have. Carelessness disposing of your boarding pass where others can easily find it opens you up to identity theft and possible financial loss, not to mention a ton of hassle and distress that come from being a victim of such crime.
Did you know that that piece of paper contains not only your name, record locator and potentially your frequent flyer number, but it also contains a barcode and your PNR (Passenger Name Record) which can contain all kinds of personal and sensitive information about you, including your name, date of birth, passport number and even your credit card information. If someone with malicious intent gets hold of your boarding pass, they can access this sensitive data and wreak havoc on your life, and we don't want that, now do we?
So the next time you are flying and end up with a paper boarding pass, protect yourself against identity theft and possible financial loss by holding on on to that piece of paper and shredding it when you get home.
